Well, a friend of mine pointed out an interesting read today. It’s a game called “Petals Around the Rose.” In the article they talk about how it’s played, but you have to figure out just how it’s played… if that makes any sense. I figured out the answer roughly half way through the article. Pretty nifty. View article here.

Also, if you think you finally figured out the answere, go here, and test your theory!

Its a shame math in my head kills me. You can’t test an algorithm you come up with when you add/subtract/carry wrong…

btw, eventually i did surpass my mental least significant bit problem

does that mean you’ve solved Petals Around the Rose as well?

    Clear :)

I partly agree with Bill Gates, though. The name would better be “Petals around the Roses”. Also the JavaScript version gives a hint in that direction, but way too clearly.

    Dent,

I agree. Althought it is a neat little game. Nothing more than a party trick, but fun none-the-less. :)

Indeed, but I found it more fun than most of the frvade “riddles”. If the throw is in a vector, it takes only one line of 20 characters to calculate the answer in Matlab, btw ;-)
