So this week, with Seth gone at training, you could say I had a lot of boring, nothing-to-do time around the house. Naturally this means I spent some additional time with the woman, during this week to fill the void (between work and my playing warcraft, muhaha) we did manage to rent and watch two movies.

The New World (2005)

To be honest, this movie sucked. It was so slow moving I could hardly keep watching. The first 70 minutes was filled with random scenes of water, a boat, more water, more water, trees, confused Indians, grass, trees, water. Probably close to that order too! Every shot was void of dialog, and just nature shots. Now, I’ll admit, many of the shots were very pretty, but the previews to this movie made it seem like epic scenes would be happening, not I’m watching the nature channel. I can’t put my finger on it, but the entire movie just seemed like a waste of my time.

The Matador (2005)

Now, this movie I couldn’t pass up. It has Pierce Brosnan as a hitman, and co-stars Greg Kinnear. First of all I usually think Greg Kinnear is pretty funny, so that’s a plus… and Pierce Brosnan is fricken James Bond, how is that not cool?

This also brings up my dilemma with this movie. I’m used to Brosnan being James Bond. Even in his non Bond movies: After the Sunset, Thomas Crown Affair, Dante’s Peak… he’s always the charming, cool, action hero character. This movie though, that was not the case. The movie itself was actually pretty good though, it just caught me off-guard with Brosnan’s character.

I’d at least recommend renting The Matador, it won’t be everyone’s favourite but is worthwhile to see. I’d definitely recommend staying as far away from The New World as possible. It’s not even worth copying for free. It’s a waste of space in your house hold, and will taint your soul with a vile hate for films.
