Final Inspection

Ahh, the joys of moving.

Last night after work marked the completion of the final inspection for moving out of the apartment. It also sort of finalizes for me that the move is complete, and that I do in fact live in the new house.

The inspection went well. I’ve never really had a formal inspection on moving before. Every other location I’ve lived in has been fairly relaxed, and had the “oh, you’re moved out. well ok then” type of attitude. The apartments weren’t to much different though.

The building manager actually came and did the walk-through, but to be honest he only checked a few quick things. He was more concerned if things were clean than if we put holes in the wall or chipped up the place.
I actually thought it was going to be the exact opposite though. I guess I figured that part of their job as owners would be to hire a cleaning service between tenants, so who cares if it’s spotless? Oh wells, he said everything was fine anyway. So no real dings against us. Hopefully I get my full deposit back (minus the mandatory fee for carpet cleaning, again — if they tell you in advance they’re going to charge you, why does it matter?).

Only time will tell. We’ll see around the middle of next month I guess! I’ll tell you one thing for sure, I’m glad to have one more thing checked off the list of “things to do.”

They were the same way when I moved out, and they were also good about getting my deposit back relatively quickly.

    I was rather surprised.

Good to know, as I am looking forward to receiving my deposit back!

I’m still waiting on a deposit from my last two places. I’m pretty passive when it comes to that. I suppose it’s my nature to assume that I’ve done something wrong, and they deserve to keep that money.

What the hell is wrong with me??

Oh miles, there isn’t enough room for that question in a simple comment reply.

However, it is a good idea for you to call and check up on those kinds of things. I did my walk-through with the building manager, and signed a sheet showing everything was OK, and even got commitment to having my deposit sent to me by the 15th of next month.

Although I’m not sure how long it’s been for you now, you may want to give them a call and check and see if you’ll be getting at least something back. They should have to tell you what it was spent on if not.

Surprisingly. I recieved my deposit back from the place in Madison within a reasonable amount of time as well. You may want to call them and check on it, assuming that is one of the places you are reffering to miles.

    And I second mike’s assesment.
