Just this month NASA announced the discovery of evidence of water on mars. According to the article, it means they have a lot more hope for finding life (microbial) on mars, and the discovery even makes the idea of a human mission to mars more feasible.
The whole ordeal reminded me of a picture I saw a few months back of the Earth and Moon as seen form Mars, shown to the right (click for a larger image).
The picture does a great job of really putting into perspective just how far away the moon really is. At the same time, it really shows how far away Mars is by seeing just how tiny the Earth looks. I’m so used to photos of Earth from the Moon where the Earth is gigantic.
It’s hard to believe the moon is actually that far away!
I know, it always seems like it should be so much bigger when you see it up in the sky.
I subscribed to the MarsPhoenix Twitter feed and I practically started dancing when I read that tweet. Go Mars!
haw. amazingly, that’s where I saw it from too. pesky twitter.
