After months of anticipation, a small group of us finally went and saw The Dark Knight (2008). Dan Overby was in town as tomorrow night we have our annual Party Bus gathering, so basically he joined the usual Sonja and I (even though he had already seen it at that point in time).

We were originally hoping to go to Century, but I really should have thought that through, as I should have known that it would be sold out. Fortunately, there was a showing that was 10 minutes later at Carmike. Sonja and I had seen another movie there, The Incredible Hulk (2008), recently and it was really awesome with the DLP projection screens and it’s near 90% open seats.

This time around I was a little less impressed, and by a little less impressed I mean a lot. The lack of stadium seating and the general calibur of patrons that chit-chatted throughout the entire movie were very distracting. The seats aren’t an issue when the theater is empty, but when it was as packed as it was, I really missed Century’s seating.

In any case, the movie was amazing… the best Batman movie ever. I had heard a rumor that the director does not even want to do a third (sixth?) Batman movie because of how awesome this one is, and now I know why. :)

Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker was superb. I originally had some doubts, but after even seeing the first preview I knew it was going to be stellar. About twenty minutes into the movie he really shines with his true sinisterness when he does his first ‘magic trick.’ From that moment on, he truly was the best villain, from any movie, ever.

Highly recommend. Must see twice. It is that awesome.

We’ll be seeing it for a second time tomorrow. I am stoked.

I heard on the radio this morning that the movie broke box office records for intake on opening weekend. Something around $155 million. Kakow! The previous record was held by Spiderman 3.

I’d believe it. I’m excited to go back and see it a second time. I’m actually hoping to go mid-week sometime to hopefully get a less-filled theater.
