Today marked the final day for my INFS 780: Information Technology Strategy and Policy course at Dakota State University. Technically, I believe this course was supposed to be a “capstone” course. However, I took the course a little out of order.

I still have 2 – 3 other courses left. My reasoning for taking the course early was two-fold: I wouldn’t have had a course to take this semester (so I would have wasted a semester), and that the course is not offered again for over a year.

Ultimately, I have had a very busy summer. I almost wish I would have just taken the break and not had as much busy work to do. In any case, the course is over and I survived.

I am really not sure what to think of the course I just finished though. The course was labeled “Strategy and Policy.” I was actually really excited to take this course for the Policy section relating to IT, as that would fit hand-in-hand with what I do on a daily basis. However, the course offered little-to-no policy information or even discussion.

A majority of the course was focused around “lean manufacturing” and “competitive advantages.” While I can make the correlation to the strategy portion of the title, it was not the same strategy I was thinking it was going to be. Nonetheless, there was still nothing relating to policy offered in the course. Naturally, why would there be? I was actually looking forward to it, therefore we can not actually have it!

In any case, it is one more course under my belt, which is always a plus!
