With my course finally over, when I came home from work today I felt like I could finally relax and have a little fun. The first thing I did was a project I have been meaning to do for awhile, reconfigure my home theater setup.

About two months ago, when we first moved into the new house, I got a new television and receiver. However, I was short an HDMI cable, so I had a mix-and-match setup to get everything working. Well a couple weeks back I had picked up everything I needed, but I really have not had much time to sit down and re-work everything.

So when I arrived home today it seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally do something about it! Now everything runs through the receiver, including the dvd player, media center, cable box, and xbox 360. I also finally bothered to lookup the codes to reprogram my remote. It is finally easy to use. With the press of a single button I can switch to each source, where as before I had to use multiple remotes to switch video, audio, etc. I also took a little extra time and programmed the remote to also be to control each of the devices individually as well.

I am now down to two remotes. One for the media center and one for everything else. I am not sure if there’s anything I can do for the media center. I think that one will probably always require another remote unless I can find some supporting documentation online.
