Hiring 101
Awhile back I wrote about an Oracle product called the User Productivity Kit (UPK). If you don’t know what it is, I can fill you in with a bit of fluff: Oracle describes it as “a collaborative content development platform that allows enterprises to drive user productivity and mitigate risk throughout all phases of the software ownership life-cycle.” In my own words, I would sum it up as a useful tool for developing documentation.
In any case, at work we have been working on a project for a couple months now that deals extensively with UPK. The time has come where we are looking to expand, and I made a new hire today to help fill that role.
So what does this all have to do with the blog title, Hiring 101? Mostly… it doesn’t. It is just a little back story to fill you in on why I am actually writing this post.
Several years ago I started working for a small company which eventually was purchased and merged with a (slightly) larger company. The whole ordeal had a lot of great promises but ended up being a disaster. Management took a profitable company and ran it into the ground because of poor planning, lack of leadership and other miscellaneous problems.
When today came around, I found myself being very thankful that I can safely say I am not in a position like that anymore. While we are hiring, we are hiring because the company has already grown and we can support the additional employee base. This is a much most positive situation to be in, unlike previous cases where I have witnessed where a mass-hiring has taken place, and then there is no work to be done.
Does this mean I’ll get my last paycheck and reimbursement finally?
Not sure, I get paid by a new company with no ties to Quin. Even I got the shaft by the last one (actually last two for me).
I am thinking that is not going to change.
