Katy Perry used to be Christian?

Did everyone know that Katy Perry, whose song “I Kissed A Girl” was number one for awhie over summer, started out as a Christian singer? Because I did not.
Thanks to the Internets, I now know too! According to Beliefnet.com:
You call her Katy Perry, we call her Katy Hudson, the singer who at the tender age of 16 released her self-titled debut album in the Christian marketplace.
You got it. Katy Perry, whose single “I Kissed A Girl” is tearing up the Billboard charts, got her start in the Christian industry.
The daughter of two conservative preachers, Katy Hudson signed with Red Hill Records and in 2001 released an album filled with Christian pop/rock radio-friendly songs.
Fascinating? Yes.

Come to think of it, I think this was discussed like a month ago but I had since forgotten. When I read it, I was equally as shocked as I previously may have been.
This is news to me…. and I liked it!
