Nike+iPod
Last week, for my birthday, I received a Nike+iPod from my lovely husband and a gift card to Scheels from my mother. I’d had my eye on some new running shoes. Not only were mine getting old, but I wanted something with more cushioning for the balls of my feet. I was looking at a certain pair of Adidas but the Scheels saleswoman also recommended a pair of Nike’s. I had one of each on and couldn’t decide which I thought would be best so they put me on the treadmill and let me run for a minute. In the end, I decided on the Nike’s - which works out well for the placement of my Nike+ sensor.
This morning I went out to calibrate the distance setting. You can calibrate against a walking and/or a running speed. I don’t intend to utilize the Nike+ for walking purposes, but since I was out I decided to calibrate both. The iPod read that the calibration was successful but tomorrow I plan to run a route where I know the mileage so I can judge its accuracy.
I’m excited about the features the device offers. It will come in quite handy for training. I can use it to monitor time, distance, or calories burned. I’m sure I’ll use the distance tracking the most. I’ve also become a member of www.nikeplus.com. The Nike+iPod allows iTunes to send my workout data to the website so I can track my progress. The website also allows you to view the progress of any friends that may also have Nike+iPod and, apparently, you can challenge or be challenged by other Nike+ users. I’m not entirely sure what “challenge” entails but it’s cool none-the-less.
