Goodbye Trees
While selecting our lot Mike and I made a pro/con list to determine which of the two lot options we would select. One of the pros for the lot we chose was that it had established trees in the backyard. Number one, that meant we didn’t have to buy trees, number two we wouldn’t have to wait for them to grow and number three, most importantly, they block out the neighbor’s yard granting us a little privacy.
Sadly we received a notice from Xcel Engergy claiming right of way to clear everything from the power lines. According to their documentation trees may not be planted within 37.5 feet of the lines. Xcel is surmising that the trees were planted long ago when the nursery owned the land. Mike and I are exploring our options to see what we can replace the trees with. Our neighbors also received a notice to have their tree’s removed. I feel a little worse for them because they’ve created landscaping around theirs.
*Grumble* *Grumble* *Grumble*

That’s really poopy!

I know! We were given a book of approved trees – and it stated 25 feet as the distance from the lines so maybe we can position a couple of trees in such a way as to block out the neighbors yards.

Me too. I mean who really cares if Tea loses power anyway?

Chop down your tree, and then chop down their power line. That’ll show them!

Actually, the book states “0 – 25″ feet from the power lines, you can plant trees that have a maximum height of roughly sub 20 feet tall.
