Hopes for New Moon
Progress of the new Twilight Saga film, New Moon, is coming along quickly. Casting seems to be wrapping up and several actors have already completed their scenes. The Internet is full of clips and articles relating to the film, but official sites and trailers have not yet been created.
For those who have read the book series, New Moon is the mopiest book in the set. Though it contains several action packed events, the book is written in first person and thus countless pages are filled with Bella’s thoughts and feelings about Edward’s departure (can you tell this was my least favorite novel?). In the first several chapters Bella seems to slip into a bout of depression and tends to loose touch with reality at times. If the screenplay does not find an appropriate balance of events to keep the plot progressing, this movie has the potential to flop.
With the huge success of the Twilight film, the budget for New Moon will likely increase. According to the special features on the Twilight DVD, no CGI was used for the stunts. I do feel this was kind of a downfall for the film because some of the scenes could have benefited from CGI work, quite frankly, some things looked a bit cheesy. This will also be beneficial for the hair and make up departments; perhaps the wardrobe can more closely resemble how it is written in the books. A low budget wasn’t the only issue Twilight faced, the lead actress was a minor and had limited shooting hours. This created instances when a scene would only have one or two shots allotted and the best one won. I’m hoping, now that Kristen Stewart is of legal age, more time can be spent on shooting multiple takes to select the scene with the best acting. I also think the acting may improve in the sequel because the actors are more familiar with their characters and the motivations behind their expressions and actions.
I’m curious to see how the film handles the wolf pack and their transformations. I would like to know how they plan to shoot Bella’s hallucinations of Edward, and most of all, how they shoot the scenes in Italy with the Volturi clan! The New Moon novel is also where Bella and Jacob’s friendship takes flight. I am interested to see how Taylor Lautner develops his character and how the movie fans react to the new character dynamic. Perhaps some of this wonderment will be discussed in ET’s New Moon exclusive airing today.

Yeah, this was my least favorite book too. I only liked the book once She went to Italy. The rest I found frustrating.
