Winter Fitness Challenge

exerciseThis winter, November 1st to March 31st, my friend Kari and I have decided to compete against one another in a fitness challenge.  Our hope is that this competition will provide us with that extra “oomph” of motivation when short daylight hours and cold weather causes it to wane.  The winner shall be the participant with the largest exercise tally and will be treated to a free movie and pedicure!

  • Monday, 1.18: I had every intention of exercising, but instead I was coerced into hanging out with my husband because he was bored.

  • Wednesday, 1.13: One hour of shoveling - my arms hurt!
  • Thursday, 1.14: 2.5 mile run, arm and ab exercises
  • Friday, 1.15 and Saturday, 1.16: Nothing.

Ummm… epic fail on logging workouts week 7 - week 10.

Week 7:

  • Sunday, 12.13: Nothing
  • Monday, 12.14: Zumba
  • Tuesday, 12.15:

Week 6:

  • Sunday, 12.6: No exercise.
  • Monday, 12.7: Shoveled, 25 minute walk, resistance training.
  • Tuesday, 12.8: A lot of shoveling, but no extra exercise.
  • Wednesday, 12.9: More shoveling, no exercise.
  • Thursday, 12.10: Nothing.
  • Friday, 12.11 - Saturday, 12.12: Played the “I’ll do it later” game.  Didn’t do it later. :(

Week 5:

  • Sunday, 11.29: Uhh…
  • Monday, 11.30: 45 minute walk, push-ups, hula hooping.
  • Tuesday, 12.1: Speed work, resistance training, ab crunches.
  • Wednesday - Saturday, 12.2 - 12.5: Complete and total laziness; I am lame.

Week 4:

  • Sunday, 11.22: Distracted myself with other things.  No workout.
  • Monday, 11.23: 2 mile run, speed work, resistance training and hula hooping.
  • Tuesday, 11.24: Nada.
  • Wednesday - Saturday, 11.25 - 11.28: Umm….

Week 3:

  • Sunday, 11.15: Nothing.
  • Monday, 11.16: 2 mile run, resistance training and 4 minutes hula hooping.
  • Tuesday, 11.17: Two Belly Dance DVD’s.
  • Wednesday, 11.18: Zumba DVD.
  • Thursday, 11.19: No exercising.  Boo.
  • Friday, 11.20: Nada.
  • Saturday, 11.21: Zumba DVD.

Week 2:

  • Sunday, 11.08: 20 minute walk, hula hooping and resistance training.
  • Monday, 11.09: 25 minute bike ride, 4 minutes hula hooping and 20 tricep dips.
  • Tuesday, 11.10: Nothing.
  • Wednesday, 11.11: Two work out DVD’s.
  • Thursday, 11.12: Nothing.
  • Friday, 11.13: Nothing.
  • Saturday, 11.14: Nothing.

Week 1:

  • Sunday, 11.01: Sonja was lazy.
  • Monday, 11.02: 3 mile run, 10 push-ups and abdominal exercises.
  • Tuesday, 11.03: 3 min hula-hoop, 30 min resistance training and jump rope.
  • Wednesday, 11.04: Nothing.
  • Thursday, 11.05: Sick.
  • Friday, 11.06: Sick.
  • Saturday, 11.07: Sick.

  1. i’m noticing lots of shoveling on this list - don’t you have a snow blower?

  2. Actually, I was going to ask about that. Are we counting shoveling? You keep mentioning it, but I haven’t been recording stuff like that. (I think I put massive housecleaning as a joke, but I wasn’t intending on counting it…)

  3. I haven’t been recording house chores, but sometimes Mike and I elect to shovel instead of snowblow for our daily activity. Other times the snow is too wet, deep or dense to use the snowblower and by the time we’ve finished I’m sweating and in pain. It’s pretty much cardio and strength training combined! If you’d prefer not to count it, I hold no objection to that.

  4. Hmm…I don’t know. My husband agrees that its a workout, but I don’t know if I’d count it. I guess if you want to, go for it. I just wish I had known we could count stuff like that.

  5. I won’t count it.
