2012…

Forget the Mayan calendar, I’m just glad 2011 is over.
2011 was a long year for me.
- My aunt, Doris, lost her battle with cancer in January.
- Work got unbelievably crazy busy
- Made some long-term career decisions… multiple times
- The flooding… I’m ok with never seeing another sandbag.
- Lots of little stuff here and there… no time for all of it.
As 2012 starts, I have been thinking about the whole “resolution” gig. While I’ve said “diet and exercise”, “be a better person”, and all kinds of things like that in the past, they always felt like “checkbox answers”. Meaning I said them just to say I had a resolution. I’m always dieting… and well, I think I’m a pretty nice person. Those weren’t anything challenging or moving at all.
So I came up with a better resolution. One that has been built upon the last couple of years worth of experiences, headaches, successes and failures:
I resolve to finish more of what I start in a timely fashion.
When building my lists of to-do’s, needs, wants, and the like, I’ve been finding myself with ever-growing, almost sufficating lists of tasks that just need an hour, 2 hours, 5 minutes, 2 days… Well, no more. And to “prove” this effort is serious, I’ve knocked out 5 things off the household list between last night and tonight. More to come, of course.
